Before todays game against the Cardinals the Cubs made numerous roster moves including calling up Jake Arrieta so he can make his first start of the year today against the Cardinals. In a corresponding move the Cubs option Zac Rosscup who was the odd man out in the Cubs 'pen as he was the 3rd lefty available in the pen. He made 2 good appearances out of the bullpen for the Cubs pitching 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out 2 and walking 1.
Arrieta was rehabbing from shoulder soreness and pitched 20 innings in 5 starts striking out 18 while walking 7.
The Cubs also made some other moves today calling up Chris Coghlan, who was hitting .243/.379/.314 for the Iowa Cubs but with 18 strikeouts in 88 at bats. He was called up because of the injury to Ryan Sweeney who was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
In another roster move the Cubs moved Kyuji Fujikawa, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery to the 60-day disabled list. This move was necessary so the Cubs could free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Chris Coghlan.
